This pack of Tricky Word Flashcards has been created to make learning frequently used Tricky Words easy and fun! Simply designed and split into three groups featuring Happy Little Doers’ signature range of fun learning activities.
Tricky Words, also known as ‘Common Exception’ or ‘Red Words’, are those that do not follow the recognised phonetic spelling rules. Many of these Tricky Words are frequently used in day-to-day life, so it’s essential for children to learn these in order to become fluent readers.
The Tricky Word (Year 2) pack is split into 4 groups. Each card belongs to one of these three groups, indicated with a corresponding number of red dots. Once your child has mastered each word within the first group, practise those in the second and third groups. Repetition is key in learning Tricky Words, so be sure to go back and revisit each group. The activities included are designed to make learning these words fun!
The national curriculum for year 1 sets out the Tricky Words / Common Exception words that need to be learnt by children in school, so these cards are ideal to help at home.

These tricky words cards are great. My daughter loves them and enjoyed going through them to check her knowledge. We will be playing the games to further support her reading skills and it makes learning fun for her.

We absolutely love your tricky word flash cards!! My little boy lacks confidence with his reading and since having these he wants to do them every day and has come on so much, thanks to these cards so a massive thank you 😁 Anyone who is thinking are they worth it, I promise you won’t regret buying them! We use them as flash cards but also play games with them! What a game changer! Thank you Happy Little Doers!
