Three amazing simple fun activities to start learning numbers
- Bean Bag Toss - Create a simple grid with the number card with tally dots placed inside the centre of each box. Throw a small bean bag (or cushion) to get it to land in the grid. Count up the number of dots shown on the card.
- Tally Dot Bits 'n pieces - Show a selection of the number flashcards with the tally dots pointing up. Using loose parts (such as lego, pom poms etc), place them on the individual dots, counting as they are placed.
- Number Snap - Use either the Numbers or Numbers Extension pack. Make sure you are using both sets of digit cards contained in the pack (with tally dots and words on the opposite sides). Randomly lay out pairs of cards with mixed sides, for example 2 tally dots on one side and the word 'Two' elsewhere amongst other pairs. See if your child can work out which tally dot or digit matches with the word
