A great indoor or outdoor activity for kids using foam Nerf toys to practice phonics and learning to read.
- Select the phonics stage cards that are appropriate to your child's development (see Sound Stage card of the Phonics Flashcards).
- Blu-tac the cards to a fence or wall with the high-contrast letter face up. You can place these in a random location on the wall or in a line - whatever your child is excited to do!
- If you are using either Stage 1 or Stage 2 card, use the Sound Blending card and choose simple words for your child to mimic the phonemes and repeat the word. If your child is more advanced, choose simple words that are appropriate for your child for them to mimic the phonemes and repeat the word.
- Once your child has correctly identified mimicking the phonemes, ask them to target and hit the letters in order.
Want to try something different?... This is a great activity that can be simplified with our Numbers, Numbers Extension or Shapes Flashcards. For the numbers, you not create an activity that focuses on number bonds?
